Hi all,
Have just returned from another trip up this part of the world - water,
water everywhere, it's one big quagmire up there! The landscape looks
fantastic though with fields of flowers and bird activity as I've never seen
it before. Downfall of the wet conditions was that we couldn't check sites
for Grey Falcon and Grey Grasswren. And more rain is coming!
Highlights:
Thick-billed Grasswrens, Cinnamon Quail-thrush and 6 Chestnut-breasted
Whiteface at Mt Lyndhurst
30 Wandering Whistling-ducks near Mungerrannie (not sure if they've been
recorded before in SA, they don't seem to on Birdata but I haven't checked
elsewhere yet) and also plenty of Plumed Whistling-ducks everywhere
Various Inland Dotterels and many 10s Aus Pratincoles
Banded Whiteface and Eyrean Grasswren on the Birdsville track
4 Letter-winged Kites, 1 Black-breasted Buzzard and 1 Gibberbird (close
views) Strzelecki track
And the 1st (for me) Rainbow Bee-eater for the year.
cheers
Peter Waanders
