Steve,
Somehow I doubt that the Murray will flood like 1956. The Darling floods have
been manipulated and a lot stored in the Menindee Lakes (still haven't got up
there yet) which I don't believe were available in 1956. On what I can gather
the current Victorian floods will end up here in Mildura in mid October (I hope
I am not away for work) and so will get to the junction of the Darling a round
that time. There has been talk of some of the Darling River water being
released to meet up with Murray water to give a better flush through to the
Lower Lakes, Coorong and Murray mouth. I suspect there will be some flooding in
the Riverland but nothing like the 1956 floods. On what I can gather from
locals it will be around the same as the 1993 floods, which although good
weren't huge.
However, it will be good to see water going into creeks and wetlands that
haven't received water naturally since the early to late 1990s (might even see
some Black Box with a bit of water).
Cheers,
Peter
