I agree whole heartedly with Wendy.
Not to mention Victorian Government plans for a northern link between the Greensborough Ring Road and the Eastern Freeway - which will eliminate the remnant Grassy Woodland at Watsonia Barracks and then heading for a Yarra Crossing through Banyule Flats and Bolin Bolin billabong...There has been some talk of tunnelling, but what sane engineer would choose to tunnel through a flood zone when he can build bridge or viaduct?

I am really surprised that there has not been more concern expressed about the prospective destruction of the Yarra as a major wildlife corridor.

For more information, check the 'Friends of Banyule' website.

No.
The recently approved massive UGB expansion of Melbourne to supply (money
for developers &) housing for our rapidly growing population into previously
designated 'Green Wedge' areas is destroying massive areas of grassland and
other habitat and migratory routes of many birds and other species and
habitats upon which they depend.
Coastal housing developments around here impact on coastal species like
OBParrot.
All over Australia, and the world, growing human population is threatening
life on this finite planet. Increasingly energy and material wasteful
lifestyles of humans, especially those of us in countries like Australia and
USA is bringing on climatic changes, environmental disasters (e.g. Timor
Sea, Gulf of Mexico and MANY African oil spills), plastic ocean pollution
and so many other things that are impacting on our environment including
BIRDS.
Some, I hope many, of us are interested in these topics. Personally, I am
disinterested in some other topics but do not wish to stop their discussion.
I hope B-Aus continues to be a broad forum.
