Bowra Station management

Peter Crow has asked me to put up this notice about Bowra Station. Peter and
Jean Crow will manage accommodation in August.
"Gossip about BQ's intention to change things" is completely baseless. BQ has
no authority nor desire to make changes.

> Bowra is open for business. There will be two BQ volunteers there each
> month from March to October each year. The big minus about that is the fact
> that
> we are nowhere near as familiar with the property nor with the birds and
> their locations
> as Ian McLaren so our advice will not be up to Ianâ??s standard.
> Julie discouraged visits over summer (Nov to Feb) because of summer
> weather. AWC will continue this policy for the time being.
> As Julie and Ian will be travelling for some time bookings should be
> made directly to the property. Currently we have a landline phone ( 4655
> 1238 ). Very soon we hope there will be internet access.
> Australian Wildlife Conservancy now own Bowra and have asked Birds
> Queensland to help by managing visits by birders. This sounds a rather
> grand work description but really means only taking bookings, accepting
> payment, handing out maps and checklists, and doing the laundry.
> Those doing this task will not be limited to BQ members. At present we
> have quite a few people interested in volunteering - probably enough for
> 2010 and most of 2011. Anyone interested in helping should contact me at
> AWC makes all decisions as to what happens at Bowra. Undoubtedly there
> will be some changes instigated by AWC but at present we have no idea
> what they may be as AWC is still to complete their plans for the future.
> BQ have made suggestions to AWC about improving the accommodation and
> updating the facilities. One small change already approved and ready to
> go is having a good first aid kit available - just in case.
