This bird was still there today. That is on the eastern tip of Clonmel
Island on the south side of Kate Tarney Entrance due south of Robertsons
Beach east of Corner Inlet. Contrary to Clive Minton's and Susan Taylor's
experience on Sunday today it was wary rather than confiding and instead of
giving itself up, Rohan Clarke, Andrew Silcocks and I took 2.5 hours to find
it. When we did it was on a sand-bar separated by a channel from the main
peninsula. We drove ourselves in a boat hired at Port Albert but had some
previous knowledge of the area which can be treacherous due to the shallow
water, a myriad of islands among which to get lost, and in places long
fetch. Conditions today were perfect, flat calm. Consensus on the identity
of the bird is not yet achieved.
