Hi All,

The Semipalmated Plover that has been present on and off in Broome, WA since
October of last year continues to show well (it was still present on the 25th
April). This is the first Australian record of this species.

It has coloured up a little, the bare parts seem a little brighter and a narrow
orange fleshy eye-ring is now more prominent. While it has almost completed its
primary moult, it doesn't look like it will moult into full breeding plumage
this year so it seems quite possible that it will remain where it is for
sometime yet - a bird well worth looking out for if anyone is travelling up to
Broome over the dry season.

Some pics of the bird are here

(first 9 images in the gallery are from April 2010).

Cheers,

Rohan
