has anyone seen gulls catch an insect on the wing before?

20 years ago Silver Gulls were noticed feeding at night, on insectsattracted to brightly lit areas such as car sales yards and atop someof the taller buildings in the CBD. One of the insects they weretargeting was the Bogong Moth - breeding in the Melbourne Botanicgardens. Another was the Black Field Cricket.

I published a short note on this in the Australian Bird Watcher Vol 14(1) March 1991. P. 31. If anyone wants a PDF I am happy to e-mailit to you.
