beach stone-curlews on sunshine coast

Late this afternoon I saw a pair of Beach Stone-Curlews at Maroochydore on
the Sunshine Coast. One of the birds was feeding vigorously, appearing to be
shovelling some kind of mollusc from the sand. Locals have noted that the
species is seen occasionally here. It may be breeding on islands in the
Maroochy River. Jill Dening has reported breeding also on islands in the
Noosa River further north, so hopefully there is a small resident population
on the Sunshine Coast.
Also at Maroochydore today was a dark phase Eastern Reef Egret, two
Double-banded Plovers and a flock of 20 White-winged Terns, most of them in
full breeding plumage - it's getting late for this species to still be
around.
