Hi All, I agree with Steve and David, Hobbies are one of our more approachable
raptors but here in SEQ, Ospreys are equally approachable when having a feed.
Just recently at Caloundra Headland Brian Russell and myself photographed one
with a fish kill and approached to within a few metres and could have gotten
closer but too much lens. At one point a local, oblivious to the bird, walked
right underneath the branch (within touching distance) and the Osprey just kept
on feeding. I was returning with a smaller focal length lens, when the bird on
finishing its meal flew directly toward me, low over the sand and landed right
in front of me & proceeded to wash itself in the surf. This went on for a few
minutes, within 10-12 feet of both Brian and myself with the bird completely
unperturbed at our presence. Amazing photos taken! Cheers - Paul W.
