Last Sunday week in the early hours of the morning the Clarke Range
to the west of Mackay bore the brunt of the southern circulation of
cyclone force winds as "Ului" crossed the Queensland coast near Proserpine.
In a phone conversation with well known local birder, Marion
Crowther she mentioned that the main road north from Eungella Township
had not been opened four four days after being littered with many large
broken trees yet to be cleared. Most of the local dairy farms along
Dalrymple Road have isolated and can't have their product collected.
Because the Dalrymple Road area (where birders find the Eungella
Honeyeater) runs parrallel to the coast the rainforest sustained a lot
of damage. Hopefully this unique species will disperse to less affected
areas and return as the rainforest comes back in due course.
