A strange combination of birds - but after visiting Moggill state Forest
on Saturday morning and Pt Lookout on North Stradbroke Island on
Saturday afternoon both these birds had been seen. Along with
Black-faced and Spectacled Monarchs, Shining Bronze and Fan-tailed
Cuckoos, Varied Sitellas and an overheard Rose-crowned Fruit Dove at
Moggill the owl was spotted deep in tangled undergrowth roosting
quietly.
While on Straddie, a female Lesser Frigatebird, a single Arctic Skua,
Common Noddies and Wedge-tailed Shearwaters at Point Lookout made for a
big day. We had expected more from the cyclone up north, but the seas
had actually dropped off from last weekend and the SE wind was not as
aggressive. 4 Poms seen altogether, all light phase, 3 north, 1 south.
We left the island as darkness and rain descended.
