Hi Burney,

I would suggest that the Brolga behaviour may indicate a territorial pair 
attempting, albeit a little half-hearted, to chase off an interloper.  The 
head bobbing and calling of the pair was a display, obviously designed to 
tell the interloper that they were a committed pair and weren't interested 
in changing that situation.  I have seen this with Black-necked (Satin) 
Storks when a third adult arrives on the scene. Was the third bird 
associating with the pair a young bird, possibly their offspring?
