Hi Bill,
Not familiar with Brisbane but from a couple of open ocean voyages I've done
you'll need more than Goretex!
As you surmised yachting shops have the right gear, including non slip yachting
gumboots. You wont be able to get enough thermals either though they do dry
pretty quickly next to the body and changing on small yachts is difficult.
