Sun 31 Jan Australasian Darter Romaine Reserve, Burnie.
At around noon today I observed a Darter in the large pond opposite the
car park. Since my observation I have become aware that this is not a
bird often seen in Tasmania and will be trying to get photos of the bird
tommorow morning.

Fri 29 Jan Australian Owlet-nightjar, Masked Owl. Loila Tier
Reserve (near St Helens)
Australian Owlet-nightjar: heard calling frequently, seen single birds
on two occasions, attracted to the large amount of moths gathering in
front of my cars headlights. Masked Owl: a single bird observed briefly
near the entrance to Flagstaff Rd at about 10.30pm, and heard calling
again at about 12.00am 1 km further down the same Rd.

Australasian Bittern, Little Grassbird, Tawny-crowned
Honeyeater, Welcome Swallow. Windmill Swamp (near St Helens)
Australasian Bittern: 1 seen on the far side of the swamp from the small
gravel car park at approx 6.15 am. Welcome Swallow: 90+ at first light,
slowly dispersing up untill time of departure at 8 am when only about 30
remained. Tawny-crowned Honeyeater: 6 were seen in the surrounding
coastal scrub. Little Grassbird: 1 was heard calling.

Thu 28 Jan Little Tern, Hooded Plover. Scamander
Enjoyed excellent views of 4 Little Tern and 3 Hooded Plover on the main
sand bar at the river mouth.

Red-necked Stint, Common Greenshank, Little Egret. St Helens
Red-necked Stint: c 60 in bay. Common Greenshank: 9 feeding on exposed
mud flats up river (tide out). Little Egret: 2 at the sewage ponds.
