I hope this call for papers will bring about some interest amongst the Birding
Aus community to come to Townsville and spread the word about what you might be
doing about bird & habitat conservation in your neck of the woods (or deserts).
If you are not considering a presentation, then make a note in your diary for a
winter break you won't want to miss.
The weather stats for August here are: Av max 25.9; Av min 14.7; Sunshine 9.1
hrs/day; Mean rain 12mm.
A fair number of the 317 species recorded for Townsville & District should also
be around at the time.

Birds Australia Congress & Campout

Townsville 13 – 20 August 2010

A call for papers and posters that engage the theme of the Congress:

“CONSERVATION OF AUSTRALIAN BIRDS - APPROACHES, PROJECTS and OUTCOMES”.

In the light of Peter Garret’s recent announcement we are keen to compare the
single species approach with holistic ecosystem management in conservation of
birds. We intend to focus on the conservation activities of Birds Australia
members & groups and how Important Bird Areas can enhance Birds Australia’s
performance in this field.

Topics for papers can embrace monitoring as a conservation tool, accounts of
conservation projects, captive breeding, translocation of birds to vacant
habitat, habitat restoration, data collection & publication and how to achieve
conservation action by influencing agencies and landholders.

Enquiries regarding the program to Dr Graham Harrington -

The Congress will be held in Townsville at the Plaza Inn Hotel,

Cnr Flinders & Stanley Streets.

The Campout will be based at Crystal Creek Community Centre

Murtanee – 65 km north of Townsville
