When I visited Tabin, in '05, I was lucky enough to be shown very fresh rhino spoor and dung (thanks to the SOS Rhino guys) and a view (albeit brief) of Elephant. In all I had an excellent stay, which was much more productive as far as birds went than Danum Valley Field Centre. At Tabin, I didn't have the problem of tripping over researchers and students all the time, like Danum:-). Though I did have a brilliant encounter with 3 Orang-Utan in the forest as well as a Rhino Hornbill at near ground level.

I think that it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I would recommend at least a week at each. And then there is the Maliau Basin. Too much Sabah, too little time, too little money:-(

Cheers,

Carl Clifford

My apologies to any confusion. On another note, there is very, very little at Tabin that you wont see at Dannum Valley and BRL. Don't go there looking for the rhino for example!

Alan
