With the venerated controller and founder of this forum, Russell Woodford,
yesterday we flushed three ground parrots within an hour in wallum heath
near Noosa. We were particularly fortunate to see one bird on the ground and
clambering onto a small bush, affording superb views. I have only once
previously seen this species "on the deck'' - a bird on its nest at Cooloola
many years ago.
Other good birds yesterday included Marbled Frogmouth in the Mapleton Forest
Reserve and Black-breasted Button-quail near Imbil.
At Cooroy, we had Plumed and Wandering Whistling-Ducks in the same pond, the
latter with a brood of young, and a Black-necked Stork was at Lake MacDonald
nearby.
We saw Rose-crowned and Superb Fruit-Doves near Yandina.
