Myself and Geoff Hutchinson spent two hours this afternoon at Triangle Pond,
Sydney Olympic Park observing and photographing a Lewin's Rail. We were
there between 16:55 and 18:55 and it remained in view for the entire length
of this time and most of the time it was right out in the open feeding on
the edge of the water. It was not distracted by us at all and only took
cover as a result of reacting to the stilt alarm calls in the Waterbird
Refuge opposite. Those wishing to see it should take advantage of the next
few days as the water in the pond is at an optimum level at the moment.
Triangle Pond is the small pond enclosed by the two edges of the current
Bennelong Parkway (Road) and the old closed section of Bennelong Road that
runs along the western edge of the Waterbird Refuge, Bicentennial Park
(Sydney Olympic Park). The pond can be viewed by parking in the small
carpark at the southern end of the pond and walking along the closed section
of Bennelong Road. The rail remained in view at the very northern extremity
of the pond's water at the northern end of the pond in front of the papyrus.

I've added a quick snap of the Lewin's today to my Flickr site at:
