To all my fellow Birding Aus Colleges.

I normally try to put up on my website the sharpest of photos but alas in
this case I was not able to achieve this as the light was extremely low and
I do not like using flash as it scares the birds away. I was incredibly
lucky to see this bird as I was on a very seldom used track at Lamington NP
and I had heard a Alberts Lyrebird calling and I tried to call it in but it
did not respond. While I was sitting there I decided to play a couple of
calls just to hear what the Eastern Bristlebird and the Rufous Scrub-bird
sounded like and to my amazement a Rufous Scrub-bird turned up at my feet
and I had to move away from him to take these photos. Yes I do use birdcalls
to help me take photos and I am sure that some of you out there will
disapprove but I am very conscious of how I use it and I am very strict with
my own rules in that I will never play it near a nest, I will not bring a
bird out into the open and I only play the call for a short time and also
will not go back to that bird for at least 6 months.

One of the bird guides at O' Reilly's had been there for 2 years and he had
never seen this bird and also told me that I had no hope of finding it to
photograph and I am sure that if I had not played the call I would certainly
have not seen it. If anyone would like to vent their disapproval at me using
Bird calls please take a number and stand in line. Merry Christmas to you
all Geoff Jones
