No, I have not seen the lights myself; they were in the east at 8 am,
while my house faces NW. In the meantime the explanation for the indeed
very spectacular lights-spirals and circles has also been found: A
long-distance rocket was shot up from a Russian ship in the Barnets Sea.
Apparently something went wrong, and the rocket was desctroyed in the air,
to prevent bits of possibly falling down on people. Of course the Russians
don't go into details about it.
best greetings from a wintery, but still snowfree Tromsø, whetre the
absence of sunlight these months (below the horizon from late November to
late January) leaves the skies free for spectacular light
effects---usually the Northern lights---all day.

Dear All,
I know it has nothing to do with birds, but I think there may be some
on the list interested. On the morning of 9/12/09, a mysterious
luminous spiral appeared in the skies over northern Norway. I imagine
Wim Vader had a good view, if he was at home.
