Although I am good health, this is my first posting for some years
I simply do not have the time that I used to spend during the Atlassing era.
My involvement in other activities + the extended drought followed by the
subsequent flood ruined local Wader/Shorebird observations
But I logged onto this mailing list to advise recording about 200 Oriental
Pratincoles on Nov 21, 2009
These were at Wide Bay, Lake Moondarra, Mount Isa
Wide Bay is one of the many shallow bays on the western shores of our main
water supply
Several hours previously, I recorded several dozen feeding with Oriental
Plovers near the water's edge, but towards dusk I saw the larger number
grouped together, some distance from the shoreline
Only about 10% of the birds were in full adult plumage.
I did not revisit the area for a week because of local storms .. and the
chance of getting bogged
When I did the shoreline was swarming with trillions of locusts. I could not
identify anything more than a few metres away
My previous records of Oriental Pratincoles at Mount Isa was early 2002 &
also Dec 2004
.. but those records numbered only a dozen or so.
