Scarlet Honeyeaters are a relatively new species for me - I saw my first
(one only) in Mallacoota in November 2007 - so it was quite a surprise to
see them so close to home in the eastern suburbs and then in relatively
large numbers at Fairy Dell.

Steve's observation about the abnormally prolific flowering season in the
Park Orchards area is an interesting point and I wonder if conditions were
similar in 1994.

My Yellow Gum (not the local ssp) is flowering prolifically, as are the
various gums in our park but the only nectar feeders are Rainbow Lorikeets,
Red and Little Wattlebirds and Noisy Miners - there's just not enough cover
for smaller species. Although I did have a small mixed flock of Silvereyes
and Brown Thornbills in the backyard yesterday.

Regards

David
