The Oriental Plover was found in the same field as described by Colin Reid
in a previous post, but slightly to the right of where he saw it. We arrived
at the site at 11am 24th Oct. and scoured the area with no joy. We joined
Bill, Avis and Leigh from Hervey Bay about a kilometre further up the road
looking at 14 or so Banded Lapwings. We all spent the next hour or so
looking around the area in general with no luck. At 12.30 we had all decided
to head home when Ruth and I had a further look at the original site. While
I was looking at 3 Ground Cuckoo-Shrikes Ruth spotted the bird in much the
same area as Colin described but a bit further to the right of a line from
the Turf Farm gate to the house on the top of the hill. Note: The Turf Farm
gate is on the opposite side of the road to the bird - so stand with your
back to it and look up the hill in the paddock over the road (east). The GPS
Co-ordinates are 27 26 43 S 152 26 52 E. So we caught up with the others and
called them back so could see it and we were all able to get better views of
the bird with their scopes.
