The closest population that may be wild near Sydney is in the Burragorang
Valley (Sydney Catchment lands). Access is difficult (it is open for tag-along
tours occasionally) and I think birds are sometimes seen on the Wombeyan Caves
Road.
There used to be birds in the ADI site in western Sydney, but like the
kangaroos they were probably released (there was a population of Red Kangaroos
at that site as well). I also recall Emus being recorded at Narrabeen in the
past (but again Isuspect released birds)/
Other than that, the closest Emus I know to Sydney are probably in the Mudgee
area (Mughorn Gap NR).
Cheers,
Peter
