Ron Johnstone from the WA Museum passed on a report from Noela Shepherd. She heard a koel calling at night on the 6th and 7th October in the Thomsons Bay settlement on Rottnest. This was near the nursing post. No confirmation yet. There is a Birds Australia Western Australia bush bird survey of Rottnest this weekend. I hope that Sue Mather gets my message I left on her mobile phone answering service, and can check it out. Apparently there was a record in Quairading in the wheatbelt quite some time ago. I guess the possibility exists that it might be Asian Koel rather than Eastern Koel. Eastern Koels normally only come as far south as Broome in WA.
