Walking along the bike track between the Cook's River and Canterbury Racecourse
on sunday evening i saw what i first thought was a light brown rat running
quickly along the grass verge. Well, until it flew! I followed after it and it
went into a clump of long grass. Again it ran along the ground when I
apporached, before flying for a few metres into a thicket of cestrum and I lost
it. As it was getting dark and I didn't have my glasses on I can only guess
from its size and behaviour that it was a quail of some sort? Any suggestions?
It was probably 15-20cm long at the most.
