The game is held during the day, 2.30 pm to be exact. The Seagulls are there
for the night time insects but also for the daytime leavings and use the
ground surface to roost on.
Regarding it being a silly game, all games can probably be called silly if
you break them down to there base component.
As probably is bird watching and many other pastimes/hobbies etc.
This doesn't make them any less enjoyable.
I for one enjoy bird watching and footy and many other sports equally as do
a number of other people I know.

Having read the article it appears the Gulls feed on bugs attracted by

Wedge-tailed Eagles to scare Silver Gulls at the MCG for some footy
match that apparently is important :-)
I would have thought that there were better raptors to use for the
