Wedgies vs Silver Gulls?

Tony

The gulls aren't feeding on bugs -discarded pies and chips are their fare -
and they are at the MCG in their hundreds during day games.

Melbourne has several illuminated landmarks such as the Art Centre tower
and the Bolte Bridge pylons and hundreds of gulls circle them throughout
the night. The MCG light towers have a similar but shorter term effect.
The solution to the disorientated gulls is to turn the landmark lights off
at midnight and that would also reduce light pollution and greenhouse gas
emissions. An even better solution would be not to turn the lights on!

Regards

David

Having read the article it appears the Gulls feed on bugs attracted by
the lights. Easy answer is to hold the silly game during daylight hours.

on a proposed plan (not now going to be implemented) to use
Wedge-tailed Eagles to scare Silver Gulls at the MCG for some footy
match that apparently is important :-)

I would have thought that there were better raptors to use for the
purpose? =============================== www.birding-aus.org
