Over the last few years Pied Oystercathers have been banded and flagged both in
northern NSW and in Victoria using similar colours and numbers but placed on
different legs to differentiate their place of banding, i.e. right tibia in
Victoria and left tibia in northern NSW.

This is a reminder for observers to look for colour flags and note the alpha
numeric number and in particular to note which leg the flag is on and to report
the sighting to the Aus Bird and Bat Banding Service at

There has recently been a sighting of a Pied Oystercatcher with yellow flag
number C9 on the Clyde River in southern NSW, but unfortunately the leg on
which the flag was on was not noted and so its origin will remain a mystery
unless it is resighted.
