As my last offering to this debate - we (that is Peter, my husband and myself) have directly contributed at least A$20,000 to the Australian economy as a result of being birdwatchers. Our 12 week trip in 2006 was directed primarily at birdwatching (though also general wildlife and Oz culture). We came to see your fantastic birds and we were not disappointed! And we'll be back next year to do the bits we missed last time. And I really liked the cricket analogy - oh, maybe perhaps you don't want to talk about cricket at the moment!
