Hi Greg et al,

To yourself and everyone else who has contributed to this discussion, be it
on the forum or in private, I'd like to say a big thank you for the
information and opinions/reasoning you've all provided.

I'm normally not too bad with bird ID's, and if I can't get it then normally
my wife can, but this one had us a little perplexed. As a result of the
input here we'll be tagging the pics as being a Collared Sparrowhawk and
Brown Goshawk juv.

Thanks again!

Cheers
Nigel

The following is Stephen Debus' opinion on the goshawk/sparrowhawk photos,
which agrees with my opinion:

Hi Greg,

The first photo shows the upper bird to be undoubtedly a Collared
Sparrowhawk, and all the photos of the upper (adult) bird look like
Sparrowhawk rather than Goshawk. The juvenile is of course a Brown
Goshawk. This case is one of a Sparrowhawk (probably female from the
size and square rather than notched tail) interacting with a Brown
Goshawk. It certainly happens, when Sparrowhawks territorially evict
Goshawks. I think I reported such cases in my study of Sparrowhawks years
ago.

Cheers,

Steve
