I went birding in Sri Lanka Feb/March this year and it was just fantastic. I
would highly recommend it to anyone as a wonderful destination.

We went from Columbo to Dambulla, to Hunas Falls (near Kandy) area, to Nuwara
Eliya, to Yala, to Udawaleya NP, to Singharaja Rain forest over about 16 days.

My personal favorite area was around Tissamaharama in the south west including
Bundala NP, Yala NP, the Weerawila Wetland Reserve and Debrawewa Tank. An
absolutely wonderful area rich in birdlife and activity.

Security was never a problem for us although by Australian standards the roads
were like a war zone and could be quite scary until you understood that the
rules of the road were not those of the Traffic Act but rather of good manners
and nearly everyone survives. The ancient history every where was enlightening
and despite the recent problems involving the Tamil Tigers, the overall
impression for me was one of "laissez faire" & harmony between different
religions and racial groups.

The trip was a great success and the destination is to be highly recommended.
