A quick check of a couple of references show Pied Imperial Pigeon was
recorded at Urunga in Mar 1916 (four birds) and Lord Howe Island 14
October 1913 (collected by Roy Bell with locals saying this bird had
been present for four years) and also on Lord Howe Island on 21 Mar
2004. With the recent two records at Newport and Raleigh, NSW in April
it is not unfeasible to see an occasional reverse migration vagrant
event taking place occasionally; especially with intense low pressure
systems blowing in the opposite direction. Since protection from
indiscriminate shooting this species has increased in population and it
may become a more frequent vagrant. There may be other records I am not
aware of.
