Hi all here is a note im forwarding on behalf of Gary Wright

Hi Adrian
could you send the following to birding-aus for me?

On the 5/3/09 Ju and I drove the tanami rd and from sunset until approx 10.30 we were driving between tanami mine and bililuna to a place 10 kms below the highway running from Halls creek to fitzroy crossing. In that time we saw 58 spotted nightjars on the road, one owlet nightjar sitting on the road, one little button quail, eight bustards and three presumably barn owls. The spotted nightjars were mainly sitting on the road and flushed up but were also just flying/hawking over the road. They were difficult to miss while driving as very few of them were seen until they flushed which could be the last second and they also seemed to have no car sense whatsoever often flying back into path of car, after appearing to be out of harms way. I assume there were so many as they were migrating north? Any thoughts on this?

Gary Wright
