So what is it about this spot and these birds that is making them come out when
they normally don't? Any theories? Have they been seen there regularly before
The Lewin's at Mt St Joseph pond in Altona, that showed so well last summer and
late last year, have not shown themselves since, except for a glimpse two weeks
ago. This is despite the pond now being half empty, which would normally be
perfect conditions. I suspect that nesting Dusky Moorhens have been keeping
them away from the open areas, and hopefully that will stop soon, now that the
young are away from the nests.
