Yesterday afternoon I accompanied Roger McNeill and Gavin Goodyear to the
Metroplex site and had good looks at a couple of Australian Little Bittern
and heard Lewin's Rail calling, but we also had an interesting observation
of a New Zealand Red-fronted Parakeet (...or Kakariki). We were initially
surprised to see the bird floundering in the water while Dusky Moorhens
appeared to try and drown it, fortunately the parrot managed to fly to
safety in a nearby tree, does anyone know if they are a popular cage-bird in
SE Queensland?
