Following on from recent posts on Fairy Dell (near Wiseleigh and Bruthen in
eastern Victoria) I decided to visit the area on 1 Jan 2009. Just after the
road into the reserve turns from bitumen to dirt, I got great views of a

Painted Button Quail

crossing the road then feeding just beside the car. Also spotted a goanna
(Lace Monitor?) further up the road.

At Fairy Dell itself, the highlights were

Topknot Pigeon (1)
Brown Gerygone (first tick of the year!)
Lewin's Honeyeater

It ended up being a quick visit as I was not prepared for the mozzies - you
have been warned :)

Unfortunately, I dipped on Black-faced Monarch. Does anyone know any sites
closer to Melbourne please?
