No, it's bigger than the 80-400, but it has f/4 across the entire range, rather than f/5.6 at 400mm for the 80-400. Also it's a second-generation lens, so it doesn't have the screw-type autofocus that Alistair mentioned (ie. Autofocus is much faster).
