I agree with Dan and yourself that there is a lot for us to learn about the
Little/Audubon Shearwater complex and I suspect there could be a few splits in
future based on DNA data when people get around to it.
When I was on Norfolk Island for two weeks in late April/early May the locals
were telling me about how they had a Little Shearwater that appeared in Summer
(I think this was a longer winged form) and a winter Little Shearwater (a
shorter winged form - or was it the other way around?) and a mystery Little
Shearwater that came in at certain times of the year on a set flight path low
over the hospital at exactly 7pm with a very different laughing cackle to the
other sub-species. Nobody has seen it or knows where it is nesting.
The following night I was invited along to see a theatre production by the
local amateur dramatics society. The hall is across the road from the hospital
and while I was standing outside waiting to go in I heard the call the locals
had told me about. I had recordings of the Little Shearwater calls on my iPod
and it sounded nothing like those recordings. Funnily enough it was a couple
of minutes past 7pm.

Thanks for the great report Daniel.
I have a few photos of Little Shearwaters taken off Norfolk Island. There
appears to be variability in the extent of the dark trailing edge. It is
strongly affected by the angle of the light. Playing around in a photo
editor can really change the appearance.
I have just posted one example on ABID. You'll notice that the right
underwing appears very dull, even after I have lightened it up considerably.
