Dear All,

We Australians regularly lambast our politicians about environmentally unsound development proposals, and we usually manage to get them to see the light. No doubt many if not all of you are familiar with the massive Saemangeum land reclamation project on Korea' Yellow Sea coast, which threatens the survival of many migratory shoreburds. In an article on Planet Ark's web site there is an amazing quote from an official with the Saemangeum development authority. The official, Park Hyoungbae is quoted as saying "This project is not about protecting the environment. It is about economic development. And we will do that in an environmentally sound way". I am glad they are doing it in an "environmentally sound", I shudder to think what an environmentally unsound way would be.
