Ahhh!
Now that's testing my memory - it was in the Newspaper here some months ago, about a local teenatger on the northwest coast of Tassie who mounted a campaign to change the design of the rings, and the local Tassie Milk Company, Betta Milk was to take it up. I noticed a couple of days ago, as I removed a ring, that it split at a designed "weak spot" as it came away.

I shall see if I can track down some further details.

Does anyone have any details about the Tasmanian campaign for safe rings, and the person who ran it?

I do likewise and agree it is a pain to have togo and get the scissors. If cap design can be done in Tasmania, why not in the rest of the country. It would be a great step forwards.

I wonder if it would be possible to try to photograph this bird and
send a photo to the relevent manufacturer, if they can be identified.

If the bottle cap ring is red plastic, it's probably
Coca-cola. No change of getting them to change colours, but
maybe they would change the cap design?

Some milk bottles also have a red ring, but much bigger, of course.

I'm wondering where the most likely place is for birds to find these rings. Discarded on the street, or at tips?

I've been cutting all mine, on the assumption that my rubbish will be rumaged through at the tip by seagulls, ibis and pelicans. I'd appreciate it if they at least put a little nick in them so I can break them by hand without having to find scissors.
