Hi Akos,
I reckon you'd be pretty lucky to get a Black Falcon this side of the
range. Even in the near-west of the Blueys I would consider myself
lucky to see one. In fact I've only ever seen one, and it was miles
away, north of Glen Innes. There's been a couple of sightings recently
in and around the Capertee Valley...
...which is also a very good bet for a Brown. If you haven't been
there yet Akos, pack the car ASAP. I've seen a Brown F virtually each
time I've been there, and there are a ridiculous number of other good
birds to be found to round out a trip. Firetails, Regent HE's, Turq
parrots, Bee Eaters, Painted HE if you're lucky, Button Quail, Hooded
Robin... the list goes on. Browns are a Fence Post and Stump bird,
which love nothing more than sitting around looking shaggy. They sit
quite upright for a raptor and often choose obvious perches to look
for things to eat. Little bit taller than a Galah I'd say when
perched. Plumage is a bit variable, from brown through to virtually
black. They look a bit whiskery too.
