There aren't too many species that regularly turn up in Australia that
you would confuse with an Oriental Plover if you had a good look at
it. Did the bird have a clear white eyebrow and a white throat, was
it a very plainly plumaged and did it have reddish-brown legs?
The species you need to rule out are Golden Plovers, Grey Plovers and
Greater Sand Plovers.
