There's been regular sightings of Brolgas at Hospital Swamp/Reedy Lake (on
the Bellarine Peninsula) over the years, together with the Pt Wilson
birds.
I've always assumed these to be two different pairs, however its possible
that the Hospital Swamp/Reedy Lake system is the feeding ground for the Pt
Wilson breeding pair.
Does anyone have any further info about this?
Would Brolgas (as a pair) leave thier chicks for other feeding grounds? Or
keep them under constant protection?

[Birding-Aus] Further breeding success for the WTP (Vic) Brolgas
Last Saturday 11th Oct the two Brolgas which appear to have been nesting
in
the swamp off the end of Point Wilson Rd at the Western Treatment Plant
were
accompanied by two small but apparently very healthy chicks. I think this
is
their first multiple-offspring success since their reappearance at the WTP
some years ago, representing a steady progression from their initial
repeated breeding failures, then their first breeding success with a
single
chick which grew to maturity and was often seen with the two adults, and
now
this.
Interestingly, I note Peter McSween's report of 2 Brolgas flying near
Reedy
Lakes on the Bellarine Peninsula between Leopold and Geelong this morning
-
?? the parents of the chicks (seems unlikely) or two "new" birds.
