Seen yesterday about 8.15 a.m. (spotted by my 17 year old son ffrom the car) -
a female Painted Buttonquail in Lonsdale Avenue, Pymble (Upper North Shore
Sydney) on the grass verge, looking very confused. Eventually and inevitably
mobbed by Noisy Miners, it wandered under our stationary car and made its way
into a flowerbed, still pursued by the miners.
Don't know if some of this species make seasonable movements, but that would
seem the most logical explanation for such an unusual location, although not
all that far from some fairly sizeable national parkland.
Cheers
Tim
