At a guess your bird sounds like a Pheasant Coucal.

For bird watchers there are heaps of em at the Hunter Bird Observers
Club, they can be contacted at (www.hboc.org.au) and they
may know if there is a club or something near Karuah.

Hello,

I am a very amateur bird watcher so not sure where to go for
information.
Several times in the last year I have seen a large brown bird that
appears
to be mostly a ground dweller. It does fly but relucently and short
distances into nearby trees. It is shaped like a crow only bigger and
has a
much longer tail. Same shaped beak. Can anyone shed any light on this
for
me. Have not been able to find anything that looks similar in my bird
books
and the locals I have asked do not know. Do you know if there are and
birdwatching groups in this area?

Thank you ,hope you can help.

Regards Sharon.
