Both cities are excellent for both bird migration and culture!
April is a bit early for some of the warblers. So you might want to
combine passerine migration with shorebird and waterfowl migration. In this
case NYC would probably bring more species as you can visit Jamaica Bay
(reachable by public transportation) in addition to Central Park. My favourites
in Chicago are Jackson Park/Wooded Isle, Lincoln Park Bird Sanctuary, Magic
Hedge/Montrose Harbour.

G'day all
I have to choose a stopover soon in the USA as part of a round-the-world
ticket for April 2009 and was thinking of either Chicago or New York. Do
any of you have experience with birding in these cities? I'll only have
one day so would probably try to link up with locals. Central Park in the
NY is supposed to be good - but then Chicago has Lake Michigan.
Any thoughts?
