Hi,
I was surveying shorebirds in Noosa yesterday as we do every month. I
noticed a small group of godwits - about 12 - and realised they were
all females (very long bills). This may be of interest to people
involved in the satellite tracking, as I understand the batteries are
no longer working on the baueri sub-species.
Noosa is not a significant site for shorebirds, but they are always
there in modest numbers. I don't think I saw a male Bartail at all
yesterday, and certainly no juveniles.
The Beach Stone-Curlews were there, using the protected sand island.
Our discussions raised an interesting question, which I will put in a
separate email, as I would hope for some information.
