Outside Katherine in the NT (quite) a few years ago there were some paddocks used to grow grain for the local dairy that ran within about 15-20 metres away from a moderately busy rural road. One year there was an irruption of grass-hoppers in the area that (naturally) attracted quite a few raptors that would perch hunt from the transmission lines that ran alongside the road. Result - in one season I counted more than 20 road-killed Brown Falcons - and most likely Kestrels as well - before I stopped counting...

Hi

In the last month or so, at least two Brahminy kites have been skittled on
the Bruce Highway, just in the short stretch between Nambour and Cooroy,
SEQ. The street lights in that same stretch of road are a favourite haunt
of Kestrels and up to 4 Grey goshawks, but they are not interested in the
carrion like the Brahminies.

Raptors and busy roads .
Here in Nambour, a pair of Brahminies started nesting in a suburban tree
right beside the old highway but gave up when a fresh blast of winter
arrived.

Cheers

Andrew
