Decided to turn a Canberra friend's birthday party into a birding trip by
travelling down via Wollongong and Barren Grounds. Saturday's highlights
included:

- 100's of Albatross between Coalcliff and Wollongong. Just had my binos so
only managed to ID Black-browed but I have no doubts that Yellow-nosed and Shy
were also out there. Many were flying very high and quite close to shore.

- 2 Kelp Gull at Bulli (only my 2nd sighting)

- 3 Sooty Oystercatcher at Bulli

- 1 Eastern Bristlebird at Barren Grounds. Only got a brief glimpse as it shot
across the path in extremely windy conditions.

Sunday morning in Canberra was spent birding with Alastair Smith who showed me
around Callum Brae NR. Our targets were Flame and Scarlet Robins which we
easily found, including stunning males of both species. Other good birds seen
included Speckled Warbler, Buff-rumped Thornbill, Fuscous and White-eared
Honeyeater, Wedge-tailed Eagle and Double-barred Finch.

I then headed to Kelly's Swamp where I saw Aust. Shoveler, Hoary-headed Grebe,
lots of Goldfinch, Blackbird and 10+ Skylark. Unfortunetly dipped on
Greenfinch.....again.

Managed to see 85 species for the weekend including 6 year ticks. A big thank
you to Alastair for showing me around his patch, great spot!

Cheers,
Grant Brosie
